LOLEIF at POAC '01

Key results of the LOLEIF project were presented by several project participants on the 16th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions -  POAC '01 at the University of Ottawa (Canada) from August 12 to 17, 2001.

The Final LOLEIF Meeting combined with the STRICE Kick-off Meeting took place on April 26/27, 2001 at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway.

This marks the official closing date of the LOLEIF project.

  • From  February 24, 2001 STRICE measurements were conducted on the Lighthouse  Norstrømsgrund in the Gulf of Bothnia (Northern Baltic Sea). Peter Jochmann endured of HSVA on the lighthouse for a period of 77 days to register ice forces, other relevant parameters and observations. He was supported by colleagues from LUT, HUT and VTT who joined in temporarily.
  • A LOLEIF project meeting was held on November 20th and 21st, 2000 at HSVA in Hamburg (Germany).
  • On June 27th and 28th, 2000 a LOLEIF project meeting was held at HSVA in Hamburg (Germany) .
  • Intermediate results of the LOLEIF Project were presented by LOLEIF Advisor Dr. Karl Shkhinek(1) coauthored by Dr. Tuomo Kärnä(2),   Solomon Kapustiansky(1) and Alexander Jilenkov(1) on occasion of the IAHR´00 Ice Symposium.
  • (1) St. Petersburg Technical University    -    (2) VTT- Building Technology
  • On April 4th and 5th, 2000 a LOLEIF project meeting was held in Luleå hosted by LUT
    • The project teams reported on progress and status of their research work in the different tasks and subtasks.
    • Meetings of the project's Steering Committee and Advisory Group were held in this conjunction as well.
    • Unfortunately the attendees could not visit Norstrømsgrund Lighthouse to get an impression of the ongoing measurements and a feeling of ice forces on the structure as helicopter transfer was impossible due to bad weather conditions and almost zero visibility. For the same reason the project manager Dr. Joachim Schwarz of HSVA who supervised the field work in advance of the meeting was trapped on the lighthouse and thus had to lead the meeting by intensive use of his cellular phone.
