Brief profile
VTT produces new applied technology in co-operation with domestic and foreign partners. The research centre employs about 3,000 people of which more than 60% have an university degree. The main office is in Espoo (Finland) close to the country's capital Helsinki. Departments and branch offices are in the towns of Tampere, Oulu, Jyväskylä, Outokumpu and Lappeenranta. VTT's annual turnover is about 200 million € (Euro). VTT has 12 units (thereof 8 research units/institutes) plus one for studies and one for internal services.
VTT Building Technology, the unit which originally participated in the
LOLEIF project was combined with VTT Communities and Infrastructure.
The newly created research institute named VTT
Building and Transport commenced operations on 1.1.2001. The institute
is the biggest of VTT’s research institutes and has a staff of 540 experts
and a forecast turnover for next year of approximately 14 million €.
VTT Building and Transport is an impartial and multidisciplinary expert
organisation which conducts research, development and testing services
in the field of construction, communities and physical infrastructures,
Building Physics, Building Services and Fire Technology, Materials and
Products, Wood Technology, Transport and Urban Planning, Infrastructure
and Environment. the unit offers research and testing services, consulting
and training.
