Brief Profile

HYDROMOD was founded in 1987 as an applied marine and aquatic research and related technology oriented enterprise and consulting firm. The company is based in Wedel located at the western city limit of Hamburg (Germany) and completely independent and privately owned. Two affiliated companies HYDROMOD Service Ltd. based in Hannover (responsible for field measurements and surveys) and OSAT Ltd. based in Heist (responsible for logistics and other supportive measures) supplement HYDROMOD's activities. By this a broad range of services and expertise in marine and aquatic environment topics can be provided.

Clients of HYDROMOD are public organisations like the European Commission, the German Federal Ministry of Education & Research (bmb+f) and the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Country Ministries and/or their subordinated administrations, port authorities and operators as well as the offshore oil and gas industry and other companies with activities in oceans, shelf seas, estuaries, rivers or lakes.

The company maintains an effective network of co-operation both with other service and consulting firms and with public research institutions and universities in Germany, Europe and overseas. This ensures provision of competent services  and tailored expertise in full compliance with task related specifications and requirements of our clients.

HYDROMOD's activities have a strong research and development component to keep up with newest technological developments and to ensure state of the art services at the front edge of technology. Among these the company has initialised and managed two EUREKA projects (EUROMAR-OPMOD and EUROMAR-MICSOS) and is active in European and national research and development programmes and frameworks. Within other RTD activities of the European Commission HYDROMOD is strongly engaged in the Marine Science and Technology Programme (MAST). Thereunder the company has initiated, co-ordinated and managed one project (MAST III OPCOM) and was involved as research partners in three other MAST III projects (PROMISE, C-STAR, PROVESS). Presently HYDROMOD contributes significantly and supports the co-ordination of the still ongoing MAST III Concerted Action CARTUM. Further HYDROMOD initiated and is the main contractor of the currently running FP5 EESD project EUROLAKES.

HYDROMOD has obtained competence in data and information management topics. Already in 1993, in the beginning of data and information management services for European research projects, HYDROMOD was a consortium member and contracted by the European Commission for data an information management services to the Mediterranean Targeted Project (MAST II - MTP-I) which clustered 14 European RTD projects in the Mediterranean region. Presently the company is engaged as contractor in several marine data management projects on the European and national scale. On subcontract of the Finnish Energy company FORTUM Oil and Gas Oy, Shipping, HYDROMOD conducted major parts of the data and information management work for the marine and arctic transportation research and demonstration project ARCDEV - Arctic Demonstration and Exploratory Voyage. Another data management activity served the marine and coastal environmental research MAST III project F-ECTS. Within the project SeaNet Data Interface (SNDI) and subsequent activities, HYDROMOD is a member of the project's task force and responsible for elaboration of system specifications and development contributions for a communication system for operational data exchange among marine and hydrographic agencies from presently six European countries.
