| METCON is an independent
private enterprise founded in 1996 by Dr. Klaus Bigalke, former researcher
at the Meteorological Institute of Hamburg University. Its main activities
are consultant services for authorities and companies in the field of atmospheric
environmental studies as well as R&D projects, mainly based on simulations
with numerical models in the micro- and mesoscale. Many of the models in
use have been developed by METCON, partly in cooperation with Hamburg University.
For more information please visit the METCON
site (German only).
The EUROLAKES project
work will concentrate mainly on four examples of deep European lakes which
will be also subject to simulations with 3D models. Those models strongly
rely on realistic meteorological forcing conditions at the lakes surface.
METCON will provide the EUROLAKES partners with the necessary meteorological
data and in addition will compile local wind statistics and boundary layer
wind fields, namely for Lake Constance, Lac Léman, and Loch Lomond.
Simulations will be done with the mesoscale atmospheric model METRAS.
