Institut
für Seenforschung, Germany
|
| The ISF at Langenargen
on Lake Constance exists since 1920 and is integrated in the Landesanstalt
für Umweltschutz Baden-Württemberg (LFU) at Karlsruhe since 1975.
The ISF is an expert agency of the state administration and consults directly
the State Government at Stuttgart. Its task is the permanent observation
of the lakes of Baden-Württemberg, particularly Lake Constance with
scientific methods for documentation and explanation of the state of these
lakes. The results serve for proper measures to protect this lake as an
ecosystem and represent a prerequisite for its sustained use. In particular,
the ISF is leading part of deliberation and realization of the tasks of
the Internationale Gewässerschutzkommission für den Bodensee
(IGKB), a governmental commission of the border states on Lake Constance
since 1959. Its permanent staff comprises at present 38 persons including
10 scientists. On periodic time scale there are about 10 additional technicians,
scientific candidates and scientists on schedule. The institute runs three
research launches and moved this year into a large new building at Langenargen designed for modern future conditions of work even in the European
frame. |
