| The Finnish
Environment Institute (FEI) is the national environmental research
and development centre of the environmental administration. Research and
development in the FEI deals with changes in the environment, cause and
effect relationships, means of resolving environmental problems and effects
of policy measures. We are the national environmental information centre
and we provide expert services and take care of certain national and international
statutory tasks.

PRIORITY AREAS
Research and development
in the FEI deals with a wide range of environmental issues. For 2000-2003
the following areas have been assigned as priorities:

Hydrology and Water Management
Division (active in EUROLAKES) is experienced, among other things, in hydrological
modelling maintaining and developing a fully automatic and real-time
watershed model system covering about 85% of the whole area of Finland.
The Division is responsible for operational management of some of the largest
lakes in Finland. Hydrodynamic modelling, dam safety and lake restoration
are some of the key areas. |
